Bahzad Sulaiman is a Kurdish-Syrian artist living and working in Germany. His interdisciplinary practice explores themes ranging from rethinking the definitions of spaces, identities, and traditional practices to a critical examination of transformation, and consuming culture. These themes are expressed through visual, performative, and installative mediums. His artistic approach, driven by ongoing research, reinterprets sculptural forms by conceptualizing the human body as a “Mobile Fleshy Sculpture” and treating electrical household appliances as archival entities.
An important dimension of Bahzad’s practice is his collaboration with composers to incorporate audio elements, especially opera sounds, into visual and performative media. By considering the singers as dynamic, loudspeaker-inspired components that produce a multitude of sounds, Bahzad enhances the immersive approach of his interdisciplinary artworks.
